Kurukshetra: In a major progressive step for academic advancement, Kurukshetra University’s Institute of Integrated and Honours Studies (IIHS) is set to introduce 13 four-year undergraduate honours courses from the upcoming academic session, in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 – Scheme C. Led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva, the university is, for the first time, set to introduce an academically diverse spectrum of honours programmes. The new initiative is designed to provide students with specialized, in-depth education in their chosen fields, fostering both academic excellence and career opportunities abroad.
IIHS, Principal Prof. Rita informed that the honours programmes will be available in both science and humanities streams, with 20 seats allotted for each course. The new BSc (Honours) programmes will include majors in Botany, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Zoology, and Computer Science, while the BA (Honours) programmes will offer majors in Sanskrit, English, Hindi, History, Economics, and Psychology. The admission process for these programmes will begin on June 1, and the last date for submitting online applications is June 21.
In addition to the honours courses, the university is also launching a BA in Gita Studies, a unique academic programme aimed at nurturing human values through the philosophical teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. This initiative follows a memorandum of understanding signed with the Gita Institute to promote value-based education. A one-year diploma course in Gita Studies will also be offered through Kurukshetra University’s Distance & Online Learning Centre, starting this session.
Another notable academic introduction is the BSc in Geophysics, which will be offered at the undergraduate level for the first time in Haryana. With 20 seats available, this programme aims to equip students with foundational knowledge in earth sciences and is expected to attract those interested in careers in geoscience, exploration, and environmental studies.
Deputy Director, Public Relations, Dr. Jimmy Sharma, also shared the seat matrix for other undergraduate programmes offered by IIHS in the 2025 academic session. These include 400 seats in BA first year, 120 seats in BSc Life Sciences, 300 seats in BSc Physical Sciences, 20 seats each in the five-year integrated MSc programmes in Biotechnology and Economics, 100 seats in BCA, 120 in BCom, 45 in Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management, and 40 seats in BSc Home Science. Dr. Jimmy Sharma emphasized that these new offerings reflect Kurukshetra University’s commitment to providing high-quality, multidisciplinary education. By aligning with the National Education Policy 2020 and introducing innovative, future-focused programs, IIHS is poised to become a hub for academic excellence and holistic development in northern India.
