Gene sequencing machine to get operational soon at PGIMS Rohtak: Director

Chandigarh : The PGIMS Rohtak has clarified on the recent media reports concerning the gene sequencing machine at the hospital. PGIMS Rohtak Director Dr. Suresh Kumar Singhal said the core purpose of the gene sequencing machine installed at PGIMS Rohtak is to perform advanced gene sequencing, including the detection of COVID-19 variants.

 

The machine was donated to Haryana by a U.S.-based institution in January 2023. The donated reagents were used for gene sequencing operations and were exhausted by July 2023.Subsequent supplies of reagents could not be secured from the same donor or from alternative suppliers, including the Bengaluru-based reagent supplier.

 

He said the machine itself is in good condition and is fully operational. There are no technical faults or issues with the equipment. The department is taking proactive steps to resume the functioning of the gene sequencing machine.

 

The procurement process for reagents will be fast-tracked, and we are committed to ensuring that it becomes operational as soon as possible, he added.

 

Notably, RTPCR tests for COVID-19, with 100% sensitivity and specificity, are fully operational in the viral laboratory established in the Department of Microbiology, PGIMS Rohtak.

 

These tests are continuing without interruption, ensuring the safety and health of the population. The Health Department remains committed to provide the highest quality health services to the people of Haryana.
