Heavy Rainfall Likely Over Northeast, Eastern India; Delhi To See Partly Cloudy Skies

NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that eastern and peninsular India are expected to witness widespread rain activity over the next four to five days.

 

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on September 9 and 10, while heavy showers are expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur between September 12 and 15. A fresh spell of heavy rain is also likely to affect Odisha on September 11.

 

During the past 24 hours, very heavy rainfall (measuring between 12 and 20 cm) was recorded at isolated places in Bihar, Meghalaya, and the Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat. Heavy rainfall (between 7 and 11 cm) was reported from Himachal Pradesh, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, parts of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

 

In the national capital region, the weather is expected to remain largely clear with partly cloudy skies in the afternoons over the next few days.

 

On Tuesday, Delhi may experience a spell of very light rain at isolated locations, with maximum temperatures ranging between 34°C and 36°C, around 1 to 3 degrees above normal. Winds are likely to blow from the northwest at speeds of 10-15 kmph.

 

September 10 will see partly cloudy skies with maximum temperatures between 33°C and 35°C and minimum temperatures between 24°C and 26°C. Winds are forecast from the northwest, gusting at 20–25 kmph in the morning before easing to 15–20 kmph in the evening.

 

On September 11, temperatures will range between 23°C and 35°C, with the minimum likely to remain slightly below normal. Winds will shift from the northwest in the morning to the west later in the day, with speeds between 10-20 kmph.

 

The IMD has also predicted similar conditions on September 12, with partly cloudy skies and maximum temperatures between 34°C and 36°C. Minimum temperatures are expected to hover between 23°C and 25°C, slightly below normal. Westerly winds will prevail through the day at speeds of 10-20 kmph.
