June 16, 2026 06:27 AM

SAS Nagar: Member of Parliament from Sri Anandpur Sahib, Malvinder Singh Kang, has urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to take immediate steps to curb drug trafficking into Punjab through routes originating from Gujarat, warning that the growing menace poses a serious threat to the state's youth.

Addressing the media while inaugurating development projects funded under the MPLAD Scheme in the Kharar constituency, Kang said recent large-scale drug seizures by Punjab Police indicate that international drug syndicates and anti-national elements have shifted their smuggling routes into Punjab through Gujarat.

He called upon the Union Government to strengthen enforcement measures and prevent narcotics from entering Punjab, stressing the need to protect the state's younger generation from the scourge of drugs.

Commenting on Punjab politics, Kang said the BJP lacks a grassroots organizational base in the state and remains disconnected from common people. He asserted that the people of Punjab continue to support Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann because of his transparent and people-centric governance. He added that the Punjab Government has delivered on its promises through welfare initiatives and governance reforms over the last four-and-a-half years.

As part of his developmental initiatives, Kang inaugurated four water tankers worth Rs 3 lakh each for the villages of Dusarna, Salempur Khurd, Mehrauli and Dhanaura. He also inaugurated solar lighting projects worth Rs 1.90 lakh each in Baraudi and Bharatpur villages and dedicated an indoor gymnasium costing Rs 3 lakh in Sialba village.

Residents and Panchayat representatives thanked the MP for addressing local needs. Kang assured them that he would continue to seek additional funds and undertake more development projects to improve infrastructure and public amenities across the constituency.
