Kurukshetra: A Women’s Free Tailoring and Embroidery Training Program Centre was inaugurated today at Sh. Gulzari Lal Nanda Centre of Ethics, Philosophy, Museum and Library, Kurukshetra University. The initiative is organized under the joint efforts of the Swavalambi Bharat Abhiyan, Women's Studies Research Centre at Kurukshetra University, and the Kurukshetra University Alumni Association.
Speaking as the Chief Guest of this inauguration ceremony, Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva, Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, emphasized the essential role of women in India's progress toward becoming a developed nation.
Prof Sachdeva highlighted the importance of skill-based training for women, particularly in areas such as sewing and embroidery, which can significantly contribute to making women self-reliant. Such initiatives not only support women in becoming economically independent but also strengthen the foundation of a self-sustained and developed India. Prof Sachdeva added that the training also aims to connect women's skills to local markets, thereby encouraging the promotion of indigenous products and aligning with the 'Vocal for Local' movement. This approach is expected to enhance women's income opportunities and promote a culture of entrepreneurship at the grassroots level.
Upendra Singhal, Honorary Secretary, Kurukshetra Vikas Board noted that the training centre is a significant step toward fulfilling the vision of late Pandit Gulzari Lal Nanda, who dedicated his life to the cause of women’s empowerment.
Prof Anita Dua, Director Women's Studies Research Centre, shared that the centre has already provided vocational training to thousands of women in partnership with the alumni association. The current training program will run for six months as part of the ongoing efforts to promote self-reliance among women.
Prof Suchismita, Director of the Nanda Study Centre, reported that 60 women participants have registered for the program. The training will be conducted daily by expert trainer Nargis Kirmich.
