Gurdaspur; Addressing concerns and rumours regarding the Dhussi Bund on the Beas River, Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dalwinderjeet Singh has clarified the situation. He assured the district’s residents that both the Beas and Ravi rivers are flowing within their limits, and there is no risk of flooding.
The DC strongly denied rumours that the Dhussi Bund near Jagatpur Tanda village had been damaged by water. “The Dhussi Bund is completely safe and strong. There is absolutely no need for panic,” he said. He explained that the section of the bund that was damaged last year (2023) has been repaired, and the Punjab government has since reinforced it further.
DC Dalwinderjeet Singh said that the water level currently visible in the river is part of its normal flow, and the populated areas on the other side of the Dhussi Bund are completely safe. “The district administration is fully alert. Whenever there is an alert about excess water being released into the rivers, people will be informed in time,” he added.
The administration has urged residents not to go towards the rivers beyond the Dhussi Bund. For any information or emergencies, the district administration has also issued flood control room helpline numbers:
