Clean Drains, before Monsoon- Ranbir Gangwa

Chandigarh:  Haryana Public Health Engineering Minister, Sh. Ranbir Gangwa, has directed officers concerned to complete the cleaning of drains, storm water sewers, and sanitary sewers within the stipulated time frame ahead of the upcoming monsoon so as to avoid water logging issues during the rainy season.

 

Sh. Ranbir Gangwa gave these directions while presiding over a  review meeting  regarding the cleaning operations of drains, sanitary sewers, and storm water sewers with officers of the Public Health Engineering Department. Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, and Sub-Divisional Engineers also joined the meeting via video conferencing  held on Tuesday.

 

The Minister directed the officers to ensure there is no shortage of drinking water, especially during the current summer season. He also emphasized that any water leakages should be repaired immediately. Besides this, he directed that drinking water samples must be collected and tested regularly to ensure water quality is maintained.

 

Sh. Ranbir Gangwa, while stressing  on the importance of having sewer cleaning machines in every city, said that in the places where such machines are currently unavailable, arrangements must be made to ensure their availability. He said that for the financial year 2025–26, 19 new rainwater drainage projects are underway in 11 cities, with an estimated cost of Rs. 275.72 crore. These projects reflect the government’s commitment to flood prevention.

He further shared that, as of June 7, 2025, the cleaning of 47 km out of 99 km of drains, 2,683 km out of 3,402 km of sanitary sewers, and 97 km out of 152 km of storm water sewers has already been completed across the state.

 

Sh. Ranbir Gangwa directed the officers to ensure that the cleaning of the remaining drains and sewers is also completed within the set deadline. He said that during the financial year 2024–25, the department successfully completed 23 rainwater drainage projects, significantly strengthening the state’s water management infrastructure.
