Tribune employees donate 125 units of blood to mark Women’s Day

Chandigarh : Marking International Women’s Day with a humanitarian gesture, The Tribune Employees’ Union organised a blood donation camp at the newspaper’s office, where employees came forward enthusiastically to donate 125 units of blood.


The camp was inaugurated by Justice SS Sodhi, Trustee of The Tribune Trust, along with Trustee Gurbachan Jagat, who also blessed the donors for their noble contribution.
Union president Karam Vir lauded the vital role played by women in society and said greater access to education and awareness has significantly strengthened women’s empowerment. He added that organising a blood donation camp on International Women’s Day was a meaningful way to pay tribute to the immense contribution of women to society.


Addressing the gathering, Justice Sodhi commended the donors and highlighted that the movement of voluntary blood donation began in Chandigarh and continues to inspire many organisations, including The Tribune Employees Union. He expressed hope that this noble initiative would remain a permanent and cherished feature of the Union’s activities.
Dr Ravneet Kaur, Director and Principal of Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, appreciated the union for organising the camp every year on International Women’s Day in collaboration with the Department of Transfusion Medicine at GMCH-32.

 
Union general secretary Ruchika M. Khanna thanked the Trustees and the medical team for their support and said the union would continue to organise such humanitarian initiatives in the future.
Among those present on the occasion were Jyoti Malhotra, Editor-in-Chief of the Tribune Group of Publications, Amit Sharma, General Manager of the Tribune Trust and Naresh Kaushal, Editor of Dainik Tribune.


This was the 61st blood donation camp organised by the Tribune Employees’ Union. The camp was conducted by the Department of Transfusion Medicine at GMCH-32 under the supervision of Dr Ravneet Kaur and Dr Gagandeep Kaur. Donors at the camp were felicitated with the memento and certificate of voluntary blood donation. Rajan Reikhy, who is the star donor in the city with 271 total donation including plasma, bone marrow, Platelets, WBC and blood donations also participated in the camp.
Employees who have donated blood 25 times or more include Anil Kumar Gupta (68 times), Kamal Kumar (51), Vipin Joshi (49), Dapinder Singh (49), Ruchika M. Khanna (41), Sanjeev Sharma (33), Robin Singh (32), Sushil Kumar Tiwari (26), Girish Arya (25) and Mahesh Kumar Gupta (25).
