Tragedy in Himachal: Bus returning from Punjab falls into gorge, 26 injured

Bilaspur : A private bus carrying devotees back to Himachal Pradesh from a religious gathering (satsang) in Punjab on the occasion of Guru Purnima met with a major accident in the Namhol area of Bilaspur.

 

The accident took place around 3:00 AM, when the bus veered off the road and fell into a gorge. The bus was carrying 36 passengers, most of whom are reported to be residents of the Darlaghat area in Solan district. A total of 26 people were injured, all of whom are currently being treated at AIIMS Bilaspur and nearby health centers.

 

Local residents played a crucial role in the immediate rescue efforts, helping to pull victims from the wreckage and transport them to hospitals via ambulances. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. Barmana Police Station is investigating the incident.

 

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited AIIMS Bilaspur to check on the condition of the injured passengers.He assured that all victims are out of danger and receiving proper medical attention. He expressed confidence in their full recovery and return home soon.

 

In a separate incident, a school van traveling on the Solan-Rajgarh road near Nauni University lost control and fell about 70 meters into a gorge on Thursday evening.

 

Fortunately, there were only two people onboard—both adults—who sustained serious injuries. The van was reportedly out to collect school supplies and had no children in it at the time of the accident.A crane was later used to retrieve the vehicle from the hillside. A major tragedy was averted.
