Amritsar: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking and illegal weapons in Punjab, the Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar has busted a large smuggling module and arrested two accused.

Police recovered 5.5 kg heroin, four pistols and 10 live cartridges from the possession of the arrested smugglers. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were in contact with cross-border smugglers and were allegedly working to supply consignments of weapons and ammunition sent from Pakistan across Punjab.

According to police officials, the network may have links with international smuggling syndicates. A case has been registered at SSOC Police Station, Amritsar, and further investigations are underway to trace both forward and backward links of the module.

Police teams are now working to identify and arrest other members connected to the interstate and cross-border smuggling network.
