CHANDIGARH: Celebrating the exceptional achievements of its students in academics, sports and cultural activities, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, awarded prizes to a total of 369 students during its Annual Prize Distribution function here today. MCM alumna Prof. Yojana Rawat, Dean of University Instruction, Panjab University, Chandigarh, graced the function as the Chief Guest. MCM alumna Ms. Satwinder Bitti, renowned Punjabi Artist, and Dr. Rakesh Malik, Director, Physical Education and Sports, Panjab University, were the Guests of Honour on this occasion.
The function commenced with ceremonial lamp lighting and mesmerising performance by the award winning Indian Orchestra team of the college. This was followed by the presentation of Annual Report by the Officating Principal of the college Ms. Neena Sharma. The report provided glimpses of the phenomenal growth that the college has achieved under the able guidance of Dr. Punam Suri, Padma Shri, President, DAV Managing Committee, and the commendable achievements of the college during the academic year.
She congratulated the prize winners for keeping alive the inimitable tradition of excellence of MCM. Advising the students to never rest on their laurels, Ms. Sharma exhorted them to work towards their goals with focused determination. In her heartwarming address, Prof. Yojana Rawat fondly reminisced her journey as a student at MCM.
Emotional at life coming full circle for her as she felicitated prize winners, she recalled receiving numerous awards at the MCM stage. She showered praises on MCM for being an institution par excellence that is emblematic of quality holistic education. Complementing the prize winners, she motivated them to live by the values imbibed in them at MCM and never be dissuaded by any setbacks. Prof. Rawat inspired the students to shape their lives in a manner that it becomes an award in itself which deserves no external validation. Ms. Satwinder Bitti expressed delight at being back to her alma mater that imbibed qualities in her which have been instrumental in preparing her for life.
During the function, the dignitaries also unveiled the research journal of the college- New Horizon. To honour and motivate the meritorious students who earned well deserved laurels in academics, sports, and cultural areas, cash prizes and trophies, college colours and special prizes were awarded. In the academic category, top university position holders in various disciplines were felicitated by Prof. Yojana Rawat.
The winners of Zonal, Inter Zonal and Inter University Youth and Heritage Festival, top performing NCC (Army and Naval wings) cadets, NSS volunteers, Student Council, Best Library Readers, Best Article Writer in College Magazine, Special Prizes and College Colours were awarded in the Cultural category by Ms. Satwinder Bitti. In the Sports Awards section, the International medalists, All India Inter University medalists, and Panjab University Inter University Championships winners were awarded for their superlative performances by Dr. Rakesh Malik.
