Chandigarh: Chandigarh experienced significantly above-normal rainfall in June 2025, marking the onset of the monsoon season with a 37% increase over the monthly average, according to data released by the Meteorological Centre, Sector 39-C, Chandigarh.
The city received 213 mm of rainfall during the month, compared to the normal average of 155.5 mm, categorised as “excess” rainfall by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Notably, this is the highest rainfall for June since 2013, when the city recorded 251.5 mm.
At the UT observatory, the highest single-day rainfall was recorded on June 29 at 119.5 mm, contributing significantly to the monthly total. The Chandigarh Airport observatory reported 202.4 mm rainfall in June, with 82.8 mm falling on the same day.
Temperature Extremes
Chandigarh also witnessed a heatwave early in the month. The maximum temperature peaked at 44°C (Airport) and 43.9°C (UT) on June 11, among the highest in recent years. The minimum temperature dropped to 18.2°C at the airport on June 4, the lowest June minimum recorded there in a decade.
