Nagpur: The 3rd BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting concluded in Nagpur, Maharashtra on Saturday, with the adoption of a Ministerial Declaration outlining a common framework for strengthening transport cooperation among BRICS member countries across key sectors, including sustainable infrastructure, green mobility, aviation, logistics and railway research.

Held under India’s BRICS Chairship for 2026, the meeting marked a significant step towards deepening collaboration among BRICS nations on transport connectivity and sustainable development. The ministerial meeting on July 11 was preceded by the 3rd BRICS Transport Working Group (TWG) Senior Officials’ Meeting, held from July 9 to 10, during which senior officials finalized the agenda and the draft declaration.

The declaration was adopted unanimously by the Transport Ministers and heads of delegation, reflecting a shared commitment to promoting cooperation in circularity in infrastructure, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), transport decarbonisation, urban mobility hubs, logistics and supply chain integration, and the establishment of a BRICS Railway Research Network.

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the declaration provides a collaborative roadmap for addressing emerging transport challenges while promoting sustainable, resilient and future-ready transport systems across BRICS countries.

The discussions were conducted in the spirit of mutual respect, equality and consensus that underpins BRICS cooperation. The participating countries reached agreement on all priority areas through a consultative and consensus-based approach.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari thanked all participating delegations for their constructive engagement and support in ensuring the successful outcome of the meeting. He appreciated the collaborative efforts of member countries in finalising the declaration and strengthening transport partnerships within the BRICS grouping.

India also acknowledged the valuable contributions of all BRICS member nations in making the meeting successful and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a smooth transition of the agreed initiatives to the next BRICS Chairship.

The four-day programme brought together transport ministers, senior government officials and technical experts from BRICS countries. Besides the ministerial and senior officials’ meetings, the event included bilateral engagements and cultural programmes showcasing the diversity of BRICS nations.

MoRTH said the gathering provided an important platform for strengthening institutional cooperation, enhancing people-to-people ties and promoting dialogue on sustainable transport solutions that support economic growth and regional connectivity among BRICS members.
