Sultanpur Lodhi: Environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal invited the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources to visit Punjab along with the entire committee to study the polluted water of Punjab. During the tour, he met the Chairperson of the committee, Sh. Parbatbhai Savabhai Patel. Sant Seechewal is also a member of this parliamentary committee. During the meeting, he told Sh. Patel that toxic water from cities and factories is falling into the rivers and streams of Punjab, due to which people in Malwa and parts of Rajasthan are suffering from cancer. He appealed to the chairperson of the committee to bring all the members of the committee to Punjab so that they could get to know about the increasingly dirty and toxic water in the state.

Sant Seechewal told the chairperson of the committee, Sh. Patel, that Punjab was the only state which fed the country during the famine. In a way, the farmers of Punjab had offered their water for the country. He said that Punjab, which feeds the country, is facing water crisis at present. So he demanded the Parliamentary Committee to prepare a detailed report on the drying up of rivers and groundwater of Punjab during this visit and send it to the Central Water Resources Department and place this report in the Parliament.

Sant Seechewal said that according to the report of the Central Ground Water Board, the ground water of Punjab will become 1000 feet deep by 2039, in such a situation, how will Punjab, an agricultural state, be able to save itself? This is a big question that needs attention. Sant Seechewal also told the chairman of the committee that he has been doing karseva to the holy Bein since the year 2000 with the help of the devotees. Since 2008, he has been making people aware about the polluted water of Punjab.

Sant Seechewal said that the chairperson of this committee, Sh. Parbatbhai Savabhai Patel l, has assured him that he will bring the committee to Punjab. During this visit, deep underground water and toxic water released by factories in rivers and drains will also be studied. It is notable that recently the Parliamentary Committee on Water Resources had visited Kolkata, Port Blair and Chennai and inspected the polluted water flowing in the natural water sources there. Twelve Members of Parliament and senior officials of the Central Jal Board participated in the visit.
