PSPCL imposes fine Rs/- 88 lacs to 584 consumers for theft & other violations

Patiala May 16,2022 Punjab state power corporation limited has launched a massive campaign against the menace of theft of electricity in the state. A spokesman of punjab state power corporation limited disclosed that on 13 and 14 may massive raids were conducted at different locations by various squads of enforcement wing of PSPCL throughout the state. Spokesman said that enforcement squads have checked 3035 no. of electricity connections relating to high losses feeders in different areas of the state during the last two days. Out of which 120 no. power theft cases and 464 no. other irregularities/ violations were detected. The total amount of Rs.88.18 lacs has been charged.

Spokesman also said that during the checking of Dera Sarhala near Jentipur under Udoke sub-division (Amritsar), it was found that the entire load of 29.278 kW was running directly bypassing the meter through a cable from 25 kVA transformer installed outside the camp. The consumer has been fined Rs 5.12 lacs for power theft.

Spokesman added that enforcement team checked Dera Baba Lal Singh Bhai Roopa (Rampura Phul) and found that theft through PVC cable directly from the transformer installed at the road side. Total connected load found 3kW including one ton AC. Videography was done on the spot. The cable has been removed and an FIR no. 633 dated 13/05/2022 has been lodged.

During checking a religious place in Jamalpur, Ludhiana, it was found that the consumer was stealing electricity for 40kW load by inserting a 25 mm cable directly from transformer. The cable was seized and a penalty of Rs. 9.43 lacs plus compound ing fee of Rs. 70,000 / - has been imposed under the Electricity Act 2003. In addition to this, another power theft case detected at Gill Road Police Station where outside line conductors was tapped for operating the load of 20kW. A penalty of Rs 8 lacs has been imposed under the Electricity Act 2003.

Spokesman further added that the connections of 124 no. houses in the colony of P.A.P. Complex Jalandhar, were checked. Out of which 23 no. houses were found stealing electricity. The amount of Rs.6.23 lacs has been charged under the Electricity Act 2003. Punjab state power corporation limited has appealed to all its consumers to help PSPCL in controlling the menace of theft of electricity by providing information about theft of power for campaign against theft of electricity in Punjab . consumers can also inform about theft of electricity on whatsapp no 96461-75770.
