Chandigarh :The Social Welfare Committee of the Chandigarh Administration has once again demanded that the approval to its earlier resolution, seeking the enhancement of old age, widow and disabled pension in Chandigarh to at least Rs.2000 per month, be granted immediately so that more than 25000 families can get benefits of this increase.

A meeting of the Social Welfare Committee of the Chandigarh Administration was held yesterday under the Chairmanship of Sh. Satya Pal Jain, Ex MP and Additional Solicitor General of India. Among others Ex Mayor Sh. Davesh Moudgil, Smt. Anamika Walia, Smt. Poonam Jamwal, Smt. Renu Rishi Gautam, Smt. Mamta Dogra, Smt. Rajni Thakur, Dr Ramneek Sharma and officials from Social Welfare, Police and Municipal Corporation attended the meeting.

Mr. Jain informed that the Social Welfare Committee had recommended the increase in old age, widow and disabled pension, two years back and the proposal to that effect was sent by Chandigarh Administration to the Ministry of Home Affairs, where the issue is still pending for approval. The Committee asked Mr. Jain to take up the matter with the Administrator UT Chandigarh as well as with the Union Home Minister in Delhi.

The Committee also reiterated its demand of constructing a Mazdoor Bhawan for the welfare of thousands of Labourers and other poor people in Chandigarh.

The Committee also decided to intensify the steps for the resettlement and rehabilitation of beggars especially the children, in various parts of Chandigarh. The Committee decided to observe one week in coming days as “no beggar week” so that at least in that week all the beggars can be resettled.

The committee also asked the information from the Chandigarh Police about the missing children, including as to how many children are still untraceable so that steps to trace them are intensified and those who abducted them can be brought to book.
