Shimla: Two day free cardiac and multispecialty health camp concluded at DAV School, New Shimla on Sunday. The camp inaugurated by local MLA Anirudh Singh was organized in collaboration with Cardiomersion , Max Healthcare and Shimla Development Authorities Phase II Allottees Welfare Association. Swami Tanmahimananda, Secretary Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Shimla was the chief guest today.

Addressing a health talk on ‘Challenges face by healthcare professionals’ during occasion, Dr. Deepak Puri, director cardiovascular thoracic surgery at Max said that the worst challenge is the onset of Covid 19 pandemic, which has overwhelmed the healthcare of even the most advanced nations like USA and leading countries of Europe.

Another challenge is the early onset of lifestyle diseases like heart attacks and cancers among Indian populations who are affected 10 to 15 years earlier than the western counterparts, he informed. Although genetic predisposition plays an important role in early accelerating onset of these diseases in Indian populations, lack of awareness and faulty lifestyle plays a major role in worsening outcomes, said Dr. Puri who is also a global chairman of Cardiomersion.

“Another challenge is balancing the benefits versus risks of new technologies for interventions and to make them cost effective. People may get carried away by the industry driven claims made by new technologies like robotics, minimally invasive surgery, stem cell and regenerative and genetic therapy,”

The other challenge nowadays is the growing emphasis on quality cutting and cost cutting which may put patients’ lives into unjustified risks because of reduction in adequately skilled team and substandard medications and equipment, Dr Puri asserted.
