Chandigarh, a clean, green and smart city aimed at Carbon Neutral City by 2030, is the vision of the UT Administration and Adviser to the Administrator, Dr. Dharam Pal, who has constantly brought greater inputs in terms of energy production through renewable and ecofriendly sources like solar, wind and future Hydrogen energy and emission free mobility to curb pollution in the city. Enactment of EV policy on 20th September, 2022, the vision of the administration started becoming reality now by achieving 5000+ EV mobility in the green city. Mobility various from E-Bicycles, E-2W, E-Cars, E-Autos, E-Goods Carriers, E-4W (Personal and Commercial) etc. along with administrative subsidies to the consumers for faster adoption.
Today on 23.09.23 at 10.45 am, the Adviser to the Administrator, Dr. Dharam Pal has done inauguration of India’s First App based electric cab services to the city beautiful where cheaper taxi travel is ensured with advent of this services done by Ride Smart company. Also, he unveiled First Electric Motorcycle in Chandigarh where in pollution free electric bike services are ensured in city beautiful. In his address, he mentions that the administration is working sincerely to make the city a Carbon Neutral City by 2030 by adopting all measures be it biological (tree planting, better waste management) and non-biological ways (EV Mobility & EV policy 2022, solar city etc.,).
All departments are given mandates to work together with the citizen of chandigarh to achieve the same. UT level futuristic policies, plan and targets on various aspects like plan on road structure, vehicle quantity is part of the process already in execution. Improvements in air quality, net zero greenhouse gas emissions by quantifying their source and sink are under execution. Currently many measures like reduction in use of older polluting vehicles, increase use of electric vehicles, establishment of air purifying tower to reduce the pollutants in the ambient air, increased green cover with specialized plant species near sources itself are taken up to reach the target of Carbon neutrality by 2030 and focusing to Carbon Negative same year, if possible, he added further.
There are as many as companies displayed their products and process to join chandigarh to achieve the vision of carbon neural city by 2030. Details are as below. 1.
